Family-School Liaison Workers / Mental Health

What is a Family School Liaison Worker?

The Family School Liaison Program offers free emotional and behavioral support services to Division students and their families.  Any student experiencing difficulties at home or at school is eligible for this program.

Family School Liaison Workers (FSLWs):

  1. Provide education and counselling to children, youth and parents to help them positively manage challenging issues and events.
  2. Offer support services to students, families and/or groups focusing on safety, mental well being and the healthy development of children.
  3. Enhance personal strengths and coping skills.
  4. Ensure that students and families seeking assistance are involved in the decisions that affect their lives.
  5. Involve appropriate community agencies by providing referrals.

Meet our FSLWs!

Crystal Rapson

I am one of the 2 Family School Liaison Workers at ECKS.  I have worked at Ecole Charlie Killam for 3 years and whole-heartedly love this school. I have worked in the field of Mental Health and Wellness for the last 15 years.  It has been an amazing journey along an adventurous and windy path. I've worked with toddlers, adults, and youth throughout Alberta.  In 2017, I was lucky to find a career that feels like home; working as a Family School Liaison with the Battle River School Division.  I am currently sharing my FSLW time between ECKS and Sedgewick schools.  My focus is strengths-based, student-led support.  I believe that building connections and community are key to our well-being and I hope to be part of the team of support at ECKS. My self-care recipe has a dollop of art, a handful of music, a dash of sports and a pinch of mindfulness...of course, I can't forget to stir it up with a whole lot of laughter and family time!

Dayna Bartman

Hello!  My name is Dayna - I have been working in schools as a Family School Liaison Worker for several years in a few different school divisions in AB.  I grew up in a small town called Hanna, AB.  Yep! Home of Nickelback..  I also spent some time at Augustana University and have some great memories playing volleyball there.  Being in Camrose is my home now and I have enjoyed being involved in the community, a part of the figure skating club, dance academy and volleyball league.

Working with young people and their families is my passion - I have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing students along the way.  The biggest reward in my job is to see students flourish by becoming more brave and confident, by being able to create change in their life and learning how to make positive decisions.

I look forward to continuing my work with the great CKS staff, students and their families!  This school is full of rock stars and I am lucky to be a part of the team!
