ÉCKS Terry Fox Run/Walk & the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation

Our École Charlie Killam School Terry Fox Run/Walk is Thursday, September 25 and we are thrilled that we have been selected as 1 of 25 schools by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation to help us in the fight against cancer. For every dollar our school raises on our Charlie Killam School Fundraising Page: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CharlieKillamthey will match it up to $1,000. So, let's start fundraising ÉCKS!

Here’s a sample message below to share with your community, post it on socials, and get those donations rolling in. Every dollar raised brings us closer to Terry’s dream of a world without cancer. Thanks for being part of this movement—we’re cheering you on every step of the way!

It’s the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. This year, our school is going all out to fundraise for cancer research! We’re super excited to take part! Please support our student’s fundraising efforts and donate today at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CharlieKillam

* Donors get instant tax receipts

* Students can set up their own pages and earn Terry Fox badges.

* Less paper and admin = more funds for cancer research!

Thank you for keeping Terry’s dream alive!

BRSD Update to Labour Action 2025 - September 12, 2025

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have been informed that the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) has given notice of a province-wide strike to begin on October 6, 2025, if a settlement is not reached.

The central bargaining process occurs at the provincial level between the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), which represents school boards and the Government of Alberta, and the ATA. This means that items like teacher salaries are negotiated through the provincial collective agreement, and BRSD is not directly involved in these negotiations.

What Happens Next?

For now, in Battle River School Division, classes and extracurricular activities are continuing as usual.

We remain hopeful that TEBA and the ATA are able to conclude the bargaining process as soon as possible so that a new collective agreement can be reached before October 6, 2025.

Should a settlement not be reached before October 6, 2025, all schools would be closed to students on October 6, 2026. You are encouraged to start making alternate arrangements for your children should teachers go on strike.

We will continue to provide more updates as information becomes available.
