DART stands for Designated Academic Response Time.
Teachers at École Charlie Killam School will focus instruction on Literacy and Numeracy for half of the day. In order to achieve this, we will be reorganizing our classes into different academic teams who will work with assigned teachers and focus on targeted literacy or numeracy objectives. These objectives have been carefully chosen to meet the learning needs of students based upon literacy and numeracy assessments completed this year. Our goal is to increase student achievement by identifying and addressing the specific learning needs of student groups. Please note that students will not necessarily be locked into one group or team, but have the opportunity to progress over the course of the next DART Fridays.
DART Fridays are a product of our work with the Collaborative Response Model (CRM), which has been the focus of our Staff Collaboration Learning Days at ÉCKS. Together, we are developing a framework that will help better meet the learning needs of our diverse school population. The CRM is a structured, data-driven responsive learning model that helps teachers focus in on targeted strategies to help students achieve greater success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Sikorski, Mr. Lansing or Mr. Hoyland. It is our hope that the Collaborative Response Model will become an embedded feature in our future timetabling for the 2019/2020 school year.
